A stock exchange is a platform where stocks and securities are traded. You can only buy or sell stocks if they are listed on an exchange. The stock exchange is like a marketplace where buyers and sellers meet. In India, the main stock exchanges are the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE).
National Stock Exchange.
The National Stock Exchange is a place where people buy and sell parts of big companies. This is where buyers and sellers come together in an organized way. These days, all trades are done on computers, and most stocks exist only in electronic form - you won't find any physical papers.
The computer matches buyers and sellers automatically, without revealing who they are. This system is very transparent, as all buy and sell orders are visible. If you want to buy or sell, you need to go through a broker, and many of them offer online platforms to make it easy for you.
The New York Stock Exchange
The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) was started in 1972 and is located on Wall Street, which is often used to refer to the NYSE itself. The Nasdaq started in 1971, is another major stock exchange in the United States. Both are the largest in the country, with the NYSE being the biggest and most influential in the world. Although Nasdaq has more companies listed, the total value of companies on the NYSE is greater than the combined value of companies on the Tokyo, London, and Nasdaq exchanges. Technology companies usually list on the Nasdaq, but any company that meets the requirements can list on either exchange.
